CHURCHVILLE, PA – Authorities in Bucks County are piecing together the grim sequence of events following the discovery of three members of the Castiglia family slain in their Churchville home, a case that has left the quiet neighborhood in shock.
Kevin Castiglia, 55, is accused of killing his elderly parents, Fred, 90, and Judith, 84, as well as his 53-year-old sister, Deborah. Prosecutors have charged Castiglia with multiple counts, including criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse, after law enforcement discovered the bodies during a tense standoff earlier this week.
The investigation began when Deborah Castiglia’s boyfriend grew concerned after not hearing from her for over a day. Unable to reach her, he drove to her home, only to find both she and her vehicle missing. The search led him to her parents’ house, where he noticed her maroon Kia in the driveway, but repeated knocks on the door went unanswered and the home appeared dark.
Undeterred, the boyfriend returned the following afternoon. This time, as he knocked, the door opened to Kevin Castiglia, clad in a robe. When asked about Deborah, Kevin reportedly stated she was not there and suggested she had departed for vacation. The encounter quickly escalated as Castiglia allegedly threatened the boyfriend with a large chef’s knife, warning him never to return.
Alarmed by the encounter, the boyfriend left the premises and called 911. Northampton Township police officers soon arrived for a welfare check. Upon approach, officers were threatened by Castiglia, now holding two knives—one reportedly stained with blood.
Officers attempted to subdue Castiglia with a stun gun. However, authorities say he managed to remove the electrodes, retreating into the house and barricading himself inside. The tense standoff dragged on for five hours before officers forced entry.
Inside, the grim reality of the scene became clear. Fred and Judith Castiglia were found dead in the master bedroom, while Deborah’s body was located in the kitchen. Kevin Castiglia was found barricaded in an upstairs bedroom and taken into custody.
After his arrest, while receiving care at a local hospital, Castiglia reportedly made incriminating statements to hospital staff. According to investigators, he admitted to harming someone and later confessed to killing his parents as they slept and attacking his sister when she discovered the bodies.
Kevin Castiglia, currently held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility without bail, appeared before a judge on Tuesday. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 12.
Investigators remain tight-lipped about what might have driven the killings, offering no motive as the community struggles for answers. Neighbors have expressed disbelief, describing the Castiglia family as longstanding members of the area.
As the legal process moves forward, authorities are expected to release additional information as it becomes available. For now, the small Churchville community is left grappling with a senseless act of violence that shattered a family and left a lasting impact on those who knew them.
