Minneapolis, Minnesota – A Minnesota man has been sentenced to federal prison for a violent attack that took place at one of the state’s casinos. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota, 55-year-old Shawn Rene Lussier of Red Lake was convicted after repeatedly punching and kicking a person in a hotel room, resulting in significant injuries that required medical attention.
The assault, which occurred at Seven Clans Casino on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in April 2023, left the victim with a one-inch laceration to the scalp, a bloody lip, and various body bruises. The incident also caused $450 in damages to the hotel room. This was not an isolated event, as court records reveal that Lussier had multiple prior convictions for Criminal Domestic Violence involving different victims between 2017 and 2021.
As a result of his most recent conviction, Lussier was sentenced to three years and 10 months in federal prison for Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender. Following his prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release. The severity of the sentence reflects the court’s recognition of the repeated nature of Lussier’s violent behavior and the harm he has caused to multiple victims over the years.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota reaffirmed its commitment to holding individuals like Lussier accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served for victims of domestic violence. By imposing a substantial prison sentence, the court aims to send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in society.
Moving forward, it is crucial for communities to continue supporting and protecting individuals affected by domestic violence, offering resources and assistance to those in need. By promoting awareness and education on this issue, society can work towards preventing future incidents of violence and creating a safer environment for everyone.
