Bonny Island, Nigeria — Authorities from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) executed a raid on a notorious drug hotspot known as Ama Hausa, resulting in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.
Tragically, during the operation, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid sustained critical head injuries after being attacked by armed assailants mobilized by one of the suspects, Genesis George Benson, who is also the gang leader. Mujahid was promptly taken to Bonny Island General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, recounting how the officers managed to detain all six targets despite a violent confrontation with the suspects. The operation, deemed strategic, took place on February 6, 2026, in an area long recognized for its criminal activities.
The other suspects include ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf. Babafemi noted that the confrontation was not merely a routine operation, but a dramatic clash that underscored the risks involved in efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Following the incident, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, praised the courage shown by the officers. He described Mujahid as a disciplined and brave individual who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against narcotics.
Marwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackling drug-related crime, stating that any attack on NDLEA personnel amounts to an attack on the state itself, promising severe repercussions for such acts. He also expressed condolences to Mujahid’s family and colleagues while emphasizing that the agency would persist in dismantling drug trafficking operations across the country.
