ATLANTA — A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy last month. Authorities indicate that the teen was shot while allegedly attempting to rob the suspect on Turman Avenue.
The suspect, identified as Kevin Veasey, was taken into custody on Monday. Police reports suggest Veasey shot the teenager during the altercation, which ended tragically for the young man who died at the scene.
Local resident Saba Talib recalled the incident, noting that her security camera recorded the moments when law enforcement arrived. “It seemed like they were trying to help the boy,” she said, recalling the response team’s urgency.
Another witness, who opted to remain anonymous, expressed shock over the quick turn of events. “It doesn’t make sense because it happened so fast,” she stated. “When I returned home, he was already dead. I had only been gone for about ten minutes.”
Witnesses at the scene reported that police found a firearm on the victim, suggesting that the encounter had escalating tension. “The officers did retrieve a gun from him,” one witness confirmed, adding to the complexity of the situation.
Veasey is facing several serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a felony. He is currently detained at the Fulton County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
This recent violence has raised concerns in the community, prompting discussions about safety and youth intervention strategies. Officials remind residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as they work to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
