Shooting at DeSoto Panasonic Plant Leaves One Dead Amid Stabbing Incident, Investigation Underway

DeSoto, Kansas — A serious confrontation at the Panasonic battery plant led to an officer-involved shooting on Friday morning, resulting in one person’s death and another being critically injured. Law enforcement arrived at the facility shortly before 11 a.m. to respond to reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an individual suffering from multiple stab wounds.

During a press briefing, officials confirmed that the interaction between officers and the suspect culminated in shots being fired. Although the department has not disclosed whether the suspect was armed or posed a direct threat, they indicated that life-saving measures were attempted after the incident. The suspect was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m.

The stabbing victim was rushed to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Authorities reassured the public that the situation was effectively contained, alleviating concerns about an ongoing threat in the area.

In a statement provided prior to the press conference, the company acknowledged the incident and confirmed that there was no active shooter present at the site.
