New Orleans, La. — A shooting at the historic Dooky Chase’s restaurant on Friday night left one man dead and three others injured. The deceased victim has been identified as 19-year-old Kareem Harris, a resident of the Treme neighborhood.
Witnesses reported that the incident unfolded around 8 p.m. when Harris reportedly ran into the restaurant while being chased by a gunman. In a shocking act of violence, the assailant opened fire, hitting both Harris and three female patrons who were near the entrance. The three women were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Emergency responders pronounced Harris dead at the scene. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick emphasized that the victims inside the restaurant were unintended targets, stressing that both the establishment and its patrons were not involved in any criminal activity.
