Shooting at Lakewood Church Sparks Emotional Sunday Service

Houston, Texas – The community is in shock following a shooting at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston on Feb. 11. The incident took place between services and resulted in injuries to two individuals, including a 7-year-old boy. The alleged shooter, a 36-year-old woman, was shot and killed by off-duty officers working as security at the church.

During the first Sunday service following the shooting, Joel Osteen preached for “restoration and healing” as the congregation came together to pray for the victims and their families. He expressed gratitude for the safety of those present during the incident and emphasized the importance of showing resilience in the face of adversity.

The 7-year-old boy, identified as Samuel, sustained critical injuries and underwent emergency surgeries. His grandmother, Walli Carranza, shared updates on social media, detailing the severity of his condition and asking for prayers for his recovery. During the Sunday service, Osteen led the congregation in praying for Samuel’s healing and for comfort for his family.

In addition to Samuel, a 57-year-old man was also injured in the shooting and has since been released from the hospital after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, with authorities looking into the alleged shooter’s history of mental health issues and her criminal record. Police disclosed that a familial dispute, potentially related to the alleged shooter’s ex-husband and his family, might have been a contributing factor. A pro-Palestinian message found on the recovered weapon has also raised questions about a possible motive.

Throughout the service, Osteen and the congregation emphasized the resilience and faith that will guide them through this challenging time. The community continues to come together to show support for the victims and their families, while also seeking answers about the circumstances that led to the shooting.
