New York City, NY – Tragedy struck early Monday morning near a migrant shelter in New York City as a woman lost her life in a shooting incident. Police reported that two other individuals were wounded in the same attack as a crowd had gathered to await the results of Venezuela’s presidential election.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at a park on Randall’s Island around 3:30 a.m. It was revealed that the shooter, who remains at large, opened fire from a distance of approximately 100 feet and fled the scene on a moped. The victims of the shooting included a 44-year-old woman who succumbed to her injuries, a 31-year-old woman who was shot in the back, and a 32-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound to the throat. The injured individuals were admitted to the hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The tragic incident took place amidst a gathering of approximately 50 individuals, who were gathered in an athletic field not far from the shelter. The shelter, located on Randall’s Island, provides accommodation for around 3,000 migrants on a nightly basis.
