Pawtucket, Rhode Island — The community is mourning after a tragic shooting at a local ice arena that left three individuals dead, including the suspect, and three others fighting for their lives in the hospital. As the investigation unfolds, officials confirm that the assailant, identified as Robert Dorgan, targeted his ex-wife and son, Rhonda and Aidan Dorgan, during the attack.
In the aftermath, gatherings have sprung up around Lynch Arena, with flowers and hockey sticks placed in memory of the victims. Keith Cabral, a former hockey player at the arena, brought his daughter to pay respects. “When we heard lives were lost, it hurt us,” Cabral expressed. “This place holds so many memories for our family. It’s heartbreaking.”
The Pawtucket Police Department reported that Dorgan, who also went by Roberta Esposito, arrived at the rink armed with two handguns and began firing indiscriminately. Among the wounded are Rhonda’s parents, Linda and Gerald Dorgan, and family friend Thomas Geruso, an assistant principal in the district. All remain hospitalized and in critical condition.
Corina Haddock, a high school friend of Aidan, visited the site to lay flowers and share her grief. “You’d never imagine someone would be gone so soon,” she said, battling tears as she recounted the devastation faced by Aidan’s family. “They are wonderful people, and it’s just so hard to see them go through this.”
As the community grapples with the profound loss, multiple vigils have been organized to honor the victims and support their families. Community members have expressed solidarity, emphasizing the need for healing and unity in these challenging times. “The impact reaches far and wide; everyone is feeling it,” Haddock remarked. “One good thing coming from this is how the community has come together to show support.”
Reverend Shane Lima of the Ambassadors Church of the Nazarene, located near the arena, is working to facilitate healing within the community. He emphasized the need for action to prevent further tragedies. “It’s vital that we not only heal symbolically, but that we also advocate for measures to prevent such violence in the future,” Lima stated.
The local school district is also focused on providing mental health resources for students and staff affected by the incident. “Our community is showing tremendous support, and it’s crucial that we keep Tom and his family in our thoughts during this incredibly challenging time,” the superintendent’s office commented.
