NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A food delivery driver was fatally shot in South Nashville over the weekend, prompting a detailed investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on a busy stretch of Murfreesboro Pike near a nightclub, taking the life of 33-year-old David Valentine Jr., who was making a delivery for DoorDash.
According to police reports, Valentine was driving his Chevrolet Traverse when gunfire erupted. His girlfriend was in the car with him at the time and recounted the terrifying moments before the shooting. She stated that they were attempting to navigate through traffic to complete the delivery when she suddenly heard shots. Tragically, Valentine began to lose control of the vehicle, and she had to grab the steering wheel to steer it safely to the side of the road.
After the shooting, Valentine was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Family members were informed of the tragic situation by his girlfriend, and they expressed their devastation over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Valentine’s aunt, Taquitia Hardaway, shared the family’s anguish, emphasizing that while they feel he was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time, they hope he will be remembered for the loving family man he was. His grandmother described him as outgoing and devoted to his two young sons, who were the core of his life.
The family is now seeking closure in the wake of this tragedy. “It’s heartbreaking to lose a family member in such senseless violence,” Valentine’s cousin remarked. “We just want to see justice served.”
Authorities have confirmed that police previously contacted the family on the evening of Jan. 10 regarding a suspect being taken into custody. However, little further information has been provided officially, leaving the family anxious for updates. In a public appeal for help, law enforcement is looking for two females and one male believed to be connected to the shooting. They are urging anyone with information to step forward.
As the investigation continues, members of the community are also expressing their condolences and concern over the violence that has become too common in urban settings. Police are working diligently to gather information and solve this case to prevent future tragedies.
