Shooting in Germania: One Dead, Another Arrested Following Altercation Between Friends

GERMANIA, Wis. — A shooting incident in Shawano County on Wednesday night resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of another, authorities reported. The incident unfolded around 9:15 p.m. on Highway M in the town of Germania, located just west of Tigerton.

Emergency responders were alerted by a 911 caller who reported a shooting involving a friend. While on the line with dispatch, the caller mentioned retreating to a separate building on the property, where he locked the door for safety. According to sheriff’s officials, the alleged shooter then attempted to enter that building, prompting the caller to fire a weapon in his direction.

Upon arrival at the scene, sheriff’s deputies encountered significant resistance from the suspect. Initially refusing to follow commands, he ultimately complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities discovered the victim, identified only as a 67-year-old man from the Greenleaf area, in a garage on the property. His identity has not yet been disclosed pending notification of family members.

The suspect, a 74-year-old man from the Clintonville area, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into the Shawano County Jail. His name has also not been released.

Investigators have determined that all three individuals involved in the incident had connections through hunting land they owned in the surrounding area. The caller, who cooperated fully with law enforcement, provided an account of the evening’s events to assist in the investigation.

As the situation continues to develop, authorities have indicated that more information will be released as it becomes available. Community members are left grappling with the shock of such violence occurring in their rural area.
