Shooting Spree Leaves One Dead, California Man Arrested for Murder and Attempted Murder

San Jacinto, California – A California man is currently facing grave charges after authorities reported that he opened fire on passing vehicles, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The tragic incidents occurred in San Jacinto, a city located approximately 90 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Julio Cesar Rodarte, 39, has been taken into custody and is now being held at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility on charges of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Rodarte’s attorney has not yet responded to requests for comments.

The horrific shooting spree took place on a Monday morning, prompting a concerned individual to contact the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at approximately 7:05 a.m. that day, reporting a male suspect shooting at passing vehicles. The shooter struck multiple vehicles and two individuals, both of whom were rushed to the hospital. Tragically, 42-year-old Victor Hugo Leon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers secured the area while investigators from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, Central Homicide Unit, and the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau swiftly responded to the scene. The Central Homicide Unit has since taken the lead on the ongoing investigation.

Leon, the victim of the fatal shooting, was a devoted father of four who had been married for 13 years. According to reports, he and his wife had recently purchased a home together. An emotional plea from his wife, Griselda Zepeda, described Leon as a loving and devoted family man.

In response to the heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe page was established in Leon’s memory to assist with burial expenses. Family and friends described him as an exceptional father, husband, and friend, highlighting his warm smile and sense of humor.

Surveillance footage captured the violent incident, showing the suspect indiscriminately firing at passing vehicles. Witnesses recalled the suspect eventually removing his shoes and clothing. Authorities have confirmed that no additional suspects are being sought and urge anyone with pertinent information to contact the Central Homicide Unit or the San Jacinto Station.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a beloved community member and family man, underscoring the devastating impact of senseless acts of violence.
