Shooting: Teen Killed Amid Robbery Attempt During Social Media Marketplace Sale in Cicero

CICERO, Ill. — A teenager was shot and killed, and another individual was injured during an attempted robbery linked to a transaction arranged via social media Wednesday afternoon, local authorities reported. The incident unfolded shortly after 3:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of South 58th Avenue.

According to police, two teenagers met to sell and purchase an item through an online marketplace. The situation escalated when the transaction fell through; as the seller began to leave, the buyer attempted to seize the item, leading to a physical confrontation. A relative accompanying the seller intervened but was shot twice in the exchange.

The shooter’s attempt at robbery triggered a rapid response from the seller’s relative, who drew a weapon and returned fire, hitting the assailant. The relative was promptly transported to Loyola University Medical Center, where their condition was stabilized.

After the incident, the teen who attempted the robbery arrived at Rush Oak Park Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
