Shooting Tragedy in Georgia Claims Four Lives, Including Indian National; Consulate Offers Support to Grieving Family

Atlanta, Georgia — A tragic shooting in Gwinnett County on Friday morning has left four adults dead, including an Indian national, prompting an outpouring of grief and support from the Consulate General of India in Atlanta. Authorities have confirmed that the incident is linked to a family dispute, and an arrest has been made.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in a residential neighborhood on Brook Ivy Court, where officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside a home. Unfortunately, all four, identified as Indian nationals, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Gwinnett County Police Department revealed that three children were present during the shooting. In a remarkable demonstration of quick thinking, the children took refuge in a closet to avoid the gunfire. One of the children bravely managed to call 911, providing vital information that enabled officers to reach the location swiftly.

Thanks to the timely response, police arrived at the residence while the suspect’s vehicle was still present. Concerned that the shooter might still be nearby, law enforcement deployed K-9 units to search the area. The suspect was located in a wooded area adjacent to the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar from Atlanta. He faces multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of malice murder, and charges related to cruelty to children. The victims included Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, along with Gourav Kumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander, all residents of Lawrenceville.

According to investigators, an argument between Kumar and Dogra is believed to have triggered the violent incident. The couple, along with their 12-year-old child, were reportedly traveling to the Brook Ivy Court residence when the tragic events unfolded.

The children, who were unharmed, are currently in the care of a family member. The Consulate General has extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and affirmed their commitment to provide full assistance during this difficult time.

As the investigation continues, authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident. The local community is rallying together, mourning the loss of life and advocating for increased awareness regarding domestic violence.
