Shooting Tragedy Leaves Two Dead in Coral Gables, Third Victim Hospitalized

Coral Gables, Florida – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic domestic-related shooting incident in Coral Gables that resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman, while leaving the woman’s son hospitalized. The incident unfolded at an apartment building on Granello Avenue, where police responded to reports of a shooting.

Miami-Dade Police officials disclosed that a 20-year-old man had contacted 911 to report the shooting, stating that two individuals had been shot in the apartment. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman who had been shot, as well as the injured 20-year-old.

The wounded 20-year-old was promptly transported to Jackson South Hospital for urgent surgery and is currently in stable condition. Police revealed that the deceased 61-year-old man is believed to be the perpetrator, and that he shared a domestic partnership with the 41-year-old woman who was killed. Additionally, authorities confirmed that the 20-year-old is the son of the deceased woman.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 displayed a heightened police presence at the scene, with authorities cordoning off the intersection to conduct investigations. The incident is deemed to be an isolated event stemming from a domestic issue, posing no immediate danger to the community.

During a press conference following the incident, Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin addressed the situation as a “tragic incident”, extending condolences to all affected individuals. Martin emphasized the importance of seeking assistance in volatile domestic situations and discouraged resorting to violence under any circumstance.

The complex where the incident occurred houses two living facilities, including a senior living center and an apartment complex named Gables Ponce. Residents expressed shock and sadness over the tragic event, with one individual emphasizing the abundant resources available for individuals in distress.

Notably, the incident took place in close proximity to Coral Gables High School, prompting a temporary lockdown as a safety measure. However, officials from Miami-Dade County Public Schools confirmed that the incident did not involve or impact the school community in any way.
