San Diego, CA – Tragedy struck City Heights in the early hours when a fatal shooting took place on the 4000 block of 36th Street. The San Diego Police Department confirmed the incident, which resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m., catching residents by surprise in the residential complex where the victim resided. Upon arrival at the scene, patrol officers found the man critically injured. Despite efforts by paramedics to save him, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed pending notification of his family.
According to SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell, initial investigations revealed that the assailant approached the victim in the apartment complex courtyard and opened fire without provocation. The shooter quickly fled the scene, leaving the victim to succumb to his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, authorities identified the suspect as 32-year-old Edgar Sanchez, a relative of a resident living in the same apartment complex. Sanchez was apprehended by detectives on the scene as he was walking in the vicinity at approximately 9 a.m. Upon his arrest, a firearm was confiscated from his possession.
Sanchez’s motive for the violent act remains unclear as police continue their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. He is currently detained at San Diego Central Jail without bail, awaiting arraignment scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
