Shooting Tragedy Strikes Child’s Birthday Party in Carver, Leaving One Dead and Another Hospitalized

A fatal shooting at a child’s birthday party in Carver, Massachusetts, Saturday night has left a community mourning. The incident occurred around 7:21 p.m. at the Saint John the Baptist Club on Silva Street, where law enforcement officials reported receiving multiple 911 calls indicating that shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, first responders found four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Benjamin Cowart, 27, from Brockton, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, 20-year-old Jalen Pina from Middleborough, was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he later died from his injuries. Additionally, a 28-year-old man was taken to Tufts Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, while another 32-year-old man was transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment.

Authorities quickly apprehended the suspected shooter, identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Meuse of Plymouth. He was located a short distance from the scene and was taken into custody without incident. At this point in the investigation, it has been reported that all involved parties were known to one another.

Meuse is expected to face serious charges, including two counts each of murder and armed assault with intent to murder, along with multiple firearm-related offenses. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at Wareham District Court.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Massachusetts State Police working alongside the Carver Police Department to uncover further details regarding the shooting and the events that transpired before it.
