Shootout After Domestic Violence Incident Leaves Two Dead in Genesee County: Body Camera Footage Released

Clio, Michigan – Authorities in Genesee County, Michigan, have released body camera footage revealing a tragic incident that unfolded following a domestic violence dispute, resulting in a deadly shootout. The altercation led to the deaths of two individuals, Kasi Ane Gipe, 51, and Ron Tatro, 31, before the suspect, Eric Bennett, 28, was also killed.

The incident began around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, when Clio officers responded to North Mills Street after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired during a domestic violence incident. Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson stated that an earlier argument between two domestic partners escalated that evening. Bennett allegedly shot Tatro several times while he was on a call with his mother before also shooting and killing Gipe.

The arriving officers and deputies engaged with Bennett, urging him to put down his weapon, as captured in the released body camera footage. Despite their attempts to de-escalate the situation, Bennett continued to pose a threat, leading to the use of force by law enforcement.

Sheriff Swanson highlighted the swift response of law enforcement, emphasizing the courage and dedication displayed by the officers and deputies involved. Both the city officer and deputies have been placed on paid leave, following standard protocol in such incidents.

Following the exchange of gunfire, authorities were able to secure Bennett’s weapon and provide him with medical aid. With no additional suspects believed to be involved, the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic events in Genesee County.

During a press conference, Clio Police Chief Wendel Millstead commended the officers for their professionalism and noted the outpouring of community support in the aftermath of the incident. The city and its residents have shown solidarity and concern for the well-being of all those affected by the violence.
