Strangling Man Jailed for Three Years After Violent Attack on Partner

Wisbech, Lincolnshire – A man in Lincolnshire was sentenced to over three years in prison for violently assaulting his partner, strangling her twice, and attempting to hit her with a brick.

William Gray, 31, of North Brink, Wisbech, was at his partner’s residence in Wisbech on a Monday when a dispute erupted, prompting her to ask him to leave. The situation escalated as Gray grabbed her by the throat, pushing her against a wall and into a bedroom, where he proceeded to strangle her and punch her while on a bed.

Following the altercation, the woman was able to push Gray out of the house and lock the door. Infuriated, Gray threw a brick at a fence and kicked the door. Despite her efforts to prevent property damage, Gray pushed her back into the bedroom and attempted to strike her with the brick in her face.

Despite sustaining minor injuries, the woman managed to defend herself using her arm, prompting Gray to leave briefly. Upon his return with another brick, he damaged a mirror before fleeing the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Gray was eventually apprehended in Greatford, a village near Stamford, and appeared in Cambridge Crown Court, where he was sentenced to three years and nine months for offenses including intentional strangulation, bodily harm, threats to kill, and criminal damage. Additionally, he was issued a 10-year restraining order.

Detective Sergeant Lee Lombardo of Cambridgeshire Police condemned Gray’s actions, noting their impact on the victim and emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable. He affirmed the police force’s commitment to combating domestic violence and ensuring that individuals like Gray face legal consequences for their actions.
