Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting Outside Fresno Bar

FRESNO, Calif. – Authorities in Fresno, California, have apprehended a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in northwest Fresno over the weekend. The Fresno Police Department revealed on Friday that 26-year-old Domonique Jones was taken into custody for the death of 38-year-old Gilberto Gutierrez.

The tragic incident took place just before 2 am on Sunday outside Ewell’s Place at the intersection of Shaw and Marks. Reports indicate that an altercation broke out involving around nine individuals outside the bar, leading to Gutierrez attempting to intervene and de-escalate the situation between his group of friends and Jones.

Unfortunately, the confrontation turned deadly when Jones brandished a handgun and fatally shot Gutierrez. Gutierrez was discovered in the parking lot with a gunshot wound and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement was able to identify Jones as the alleged shooter through surveillance footage, which captured the moment when Jones fired the fatal shot. Fresno police have emphasized that Jones is solely responsible for Gutierrez’s death and have transferred the case to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office for further legal action.

Prosecutors from the District Attorney’s Office have indicated that charges could be filed as early as Tuesday as they delve deeper into the details surrounding the shooting. The community is mourning the loss of Gutierrez, and authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served in this tragic incident.
