Suspect from Rehab Steals Car After Violent Attack at Publix: MCSO Arrest Made

Stuart, Florida- A man accused of a violent attack on a woman in a grocery store parking lot in Stuart, Florida, has been caught by authorities. The suspect allegedly stole the woman’s belongings and fled the scene in her vehicle. The incident took place at a Publix on Cove Road, as reported by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, identified as Carlos Manuel Lozada, claimed to have walked out of a local drug and alcohol rehab facility before taking an Uber to the Publix. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lozada, a New York resident, expressed a desire to return home.

Law enforcement officers managed to apprehend Lozada as he drove into Hobe Sound on Bridge Road, using a PIT maneuver to stop his vehicle. The maneuver caused the suspect’s vehicle to rotate and collide with a tree, resulting in significant damage.

Following the crash, Lozada was described as “extremely traumatized” by the Sheriff’s Office. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to face multiple felony charges upon his release.

In addition to the recent incident, the Sheriff’s Office disclosed details of Lozada’s criminal history, indicating previous arrests in Florida for offenses like burglary, fraud, and credit card theft. His record in New York includes charges related to drugs, DUI, robbery, possession of stolen property, and grand larceny.

Chief Deputy John Budensiek emphasized the importance of holding individuals like Lozada accountable for their actions, ensuring that residents are not subjected to further traumatization or victimization. Lozada’s arrest serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and uphold the law in Martin County.
