Suspect Sought in "Unprovoked" Assault at Vaughan Plaza: Police Request Public Assistance

Vaughan, Ontario — Authorities are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a random attack that occurred just two days before Christmas at a local plaza. The incident unfolded on the evening of December 23 when two individuals were accosted in a parking lot.

York Regional Police officials reported that officers responded shortly after 6 p.m. to the scene near Mable Smith Way and Interchange Way, an area located southwest of Jane Street and Highway 7. According to police, the victims were reportedly walking when an unknown male approached them from behind. The suspect violently assaulted one of the individuals using a sharp object before fleeing the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators are now working diligently to gather more information about the incident and have released images of the suspect, along with descriptions of the suspect’s vehicle, in hopes that someone might recognize them.

The individual authorities are looking for is believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, standing approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall. He has a light complexion with a medium to heavy build and sports dark hair and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a blue and green plaid jacket paired with dark pants.

Police have urged anyone with information about the suspect or the attack to come forward. They emphasize the importance of community involvement in ensuring public safety. The attack, which police have labeled as unprovoked, adds to growing concerns in the area regarding personal safety.
