Targeted Attack Leaves One Dead, Another Injured Outside Rural Virginia Store

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. – A targeted attack at a general store in rural Brunswick County, Virginia, resulted in the death of one man and critical injuries to another in what authorities believe was a deliberate act of violence. Deputies from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at the Ebony General Store on Ebony Road and Hindrix Mill Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. on a Friday evening.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two men in the side parking lot suffering from severe gunshot wounds. Sadly, 20-year-old Jakwon Andre Bullock, a resident of Ebony, was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a 19-year-old family member of Bullock was airlifted to a hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening, according to Capt. Joey Lopresti.

Investigators processed the crime scene and determined that the shooting was a targeted attack. Authorities suspect that the perpetrator or perpetrators fled the area in a 2016 Kia sedan with California license plate 9JRB555, which may have sustained damage prior to the incident. Damage from gunshots or bullet holes may also be present on the vehicle.

The small town of Ebony, with a population of 150 according to the 2020 Census, was rocked by the violence that disrupted its typically tranquil atmosphere. Capt. Lopresti expressed shock at the incident, stating, “It’s the outskirts of our county. It’s very quiet. It encompasses part of Lake Gaston. We have very little violent crime.”

Deputies are actively pursuing leads and seeking assistance from the public in their investigation. Capt. Lopresti indicated that significant evidence left at the scene by the suspects has provided promising leads. Anyone with information pertinent to the case is urged to contact the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at 434-848-3133. The authorities are optimistic about their progress in the investigation but are relying on community cooperation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
