Targeted Attack: Mexican National Fatally Shot in San Diego University City Parking Garage

SAN DIEGO, CA – Homicide investigators in San Diego have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in a University City parking garage as a Mexican national. Christian Espinoza Silver, 35, was shot multiple times while sitting in a car on Saturday night, along with another unidentified 39-year-old man.

The two men were driving into the apartment complex parking garage around 8:40 p.m. when a gunman walked up to the car and opened fire. The shooter then fled the scene. Despite the efforts of officers and medical personnel, Espinoza succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while the other victim remains in stable condition.

Investigators have stated that it appears the shooting was a targeted attack, but have not yet provided further details, including Espinoza’s place of residence. Additionally, there had been a Mexican media report linking Espinoza to a figure reputedly connected to the Arellano Félix Cartel, but San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit declined to confirm any details during a press conference.

According to the Baja California Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, there is no information regarding whether the killing involved individuals operating in Tijuana, but she expressed willingness to assist U.S. officials in their investigation if needed.

While police are investigating three homicides that occurred over the weekend, Nisleit has stated that the deaths are not believed to be connected. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.
