Brandon Campbell was killed, and his best friend, 17-year-old Sam Slaughter, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident that erupted on January 10.
The shooting occurred as the two friends sat in their vehicle on Tuscaloosa Avenue. Police later discovered the car crashed into a tree, indicating that Campbell had tried to escape after being fired upon. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Slaughter was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Authorities have arrested five individuals connected to the shooting, including three adults and two minors. Among the suspects, 27-year-old Algie Eugene Surrell Jr., 19-year-old Kavari Wells, and 22-year-old Ricco Wells face serious charges, including capital murder and attempted murder. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but reports suggest a possible robbery setup.
