Tragedy: Growing Memorial Honors Teen Ri’Chard Jackson Fatally Shot Steps from Grandmother’s Home in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A memorial has emerged in the Pleasant City neighborhood to honor 18-year-old Ri’Chard Jackson, who was shot and killed just steps from his grandmother’s home on a typical Monday afternoon. As family members prepare to remember him, they grapple with the unexpected tragedy that occurred just months before he was set to graduate from high school.

The makeshift tribute, featuring balloons, candles, and personal items, is situated on 16th Street, where police discovered Jackson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds around 3:40 p.m. Despite emergency personnel’s efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Chiquita Jackson, Ri’Chard’s aunt, shared her heartache, recalling the moment she arrived to find the area surrounded by police. “I kept asking if he was OK, but one officer told me, ‘You don’t want to see this,’” she recounted, conveying the devastation that rippled through their family.

A senior at Worthington High School, Jackson was eagerly anticipating his graduation, a milestone he and his family had celebrated in recent weeks. “He was so proud of graduating soon,” his aunt said, expressing her excitement about purchasing his cap and gown. Jackson had a bright future ahead of him, with dreams of joining the military and visiting relatives in Texas.

Just days before his untimely death, family members had gathered to celebrate another happy occasion: a baby shower for his pregnant sister. This sudden loss has left the family grappling with mixed emotions, shifting from celebrating new life to mourning a devastating loss.

Currently, the West Palm Beach Police Department is investigating the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and officials have not disclosed a motive. Family members suspect that Jackson may have been an innocent bystander, caught in a situation that was never intended to involve him.

“He was caught in the crossfire of something that wasn’t meant for him,” Chiquita Jackson said, highlighting the senseless nature of the violence that took her nephew’s life. As the family navigates their grief, they are turning to faith and the hope that law enforcement will uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking incident.

To assist with funeral expenses, family members have initiated a GoFundMe campaign, seeking support from the community in their time of need. They encourage anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the West Palm Beach Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County.

As the community mourns and memories of Ri’Chard Jackson continue to flood in, loved ones hope to honor his legacy by fostering a message of peace amidst ongoing violence.
