Philadelphia, PA – The 109th Independence Day Parade in East Lansdowne, Delaware County, held special significance this year as the community came together to honor the tragic loss of the Mclaughlin-Le family in a shooting and house fire incident back in February.
Despite the somber remembrance, the spirit of unity and celebration was alive during the parade, with families coming together to enjoy the traditional event filled with red, white, and blue pride. The parade kicked off at East Lansdowne Memorial Park with a flag-raising ceremony, the singing of the national anthem, and heartfelt remarks from local elected officials.
One Delco resident, Rowan Curry, expressed the joy of being part of the community gathering, highlighting the importance of sharing moments like these with fellow residents and spreading cheer by handing out candy to children.
The Le family tragedy was not forgotten as the parade also served as a poignant tribute to the lives lost. Xuong Le, his wife Britni Mclaughlin-Le, and their children Natalya, Nakayla, and Xavier were remembered with a moment of silence and reflection during the festive procession.
Angela Hill, a member of the community, reflected on the overwhelming unity and solidarity shown by residents as they came out in support of the grieving family, emphasizing the importance of standing together in times of tragedy.
