Victim Shot While Helping at Greensboro Club Shooting: Friend Recounts Selfless Act

Greensboro, North Carolina – Two individuals lost their lives in a shooting at Culture Lounge in Greensboro early Friday morning, according to the Greensboro police. The victims have been identified as Mohsin Hamid, 33, and Devonte Johnson, 28. A woman also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident took place around 1:20 a.m. inside the club on Spring Garden Street, where approximately 100 people were present when gunshots were fired. Police, along with Guilford County EMS and UNCG Campus Police, responded to the scene and provided medical assistance to the gunshot victims at the venue.

Authorities revealed that a confrontation occurred before the shooting, indicating that it was not a random act of violence. A family friend of one of the victims, Mohsin Hamid, mentioned that Hamid had intervened to help others during the altercation but was tragically shot himself in the process.

Mohsin Hamid’s selfless actions were highlighted by his friend, Ali Jama, who described how Hamid courageously stepped in during a chaotic situation at the club. Hamid’s untimely death has left the community in shock, with loved ones and friends gathering to mourn his loss.

Greensboro Mayor Vaughan visited the crime scene following the incident, expressing her concern over the ongoing gun violence in local bars and clubs. She plans to collaborate with the state ABC commission to develop solutions to combat violence in such establishments, specifically addressing concerns raised by businesses regarding promoters who contribute to disruptive behavior.

This shooting marks the 10th homicide recorded in Greensboro this year, reflecting a troubling trend of violence in the city. However, police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case, and the victims have not been officially identified by the authorities. The community remains on edge as investigations continue into the tragic events at Culture Lounge.
