Video of Gruesome Attack on E-Hailing Driver Draws Outrage in Gauteng as Police Launch Urgent Investigation

Pretoria, South Africa – Authorities in Gauteng are alarmed following the emergence of a harrowing video that shows a young man in a vehicle being violently attacked. The footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, has sparked outrage and drawn calls for restraint from sharing such graphic content.

Gauteng police have expressed serious concern about the clip, with officials urging the public to refrain from reposting it as it may retraumatize victims’ families and hinder ongoing investigations. “We must emphasize the emotional toll this type of content can have on loved ones,” said a police spokesperson.

Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, the provincial police commissioner, has assigned a senior investigator to delve into the incident. The objective is to verify whether the attack occurred in Gauteng and to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended swiftly.

The controversial video was initially shared on social media by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, who reported that the assault took place in Pretoria West. In the disturbing footage, a woman wearing a beige bucket hat is seen in the front seat alongside a man who is brutally attacking the driver, identified as a male e-hailing operator. After the assault, both individuals fled the scene.

Further reports suggest that the victim, preliminarily identified as 22-year-old Isaac Satlat, was a Nigerian national working as a Bolt driver. Details have emerged indicating that Satlat was a student set to graduate next month, with plans to move to Canada for further studies. His body, along with his abandoned vehicle, was reportedly found several kilometers away in Moshongo, Attridgeville.

Community responses to the video reflect a broader concern about safety and crime in the area. Many residents express fear and frustration over the rising violence, particularly targeting those in the e-hailing industry. Activists and social commentators are calling for more decisive action from law enforcement to protect vulnerable populations within the city.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of public cooperation in addressing crime effectively. Police are urging citizens to provide information regarding the incident, as they work diligently to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
