Violence Erupts on Prince of Wales Road as Stabbing Leaves Two Friends with Life-Altering Injuries

Norwich, England — A violent assault on Prince of Wales Road has left two friends from Romania with severe injuries, forever altering their lives. Ionut Buzdugan, 28, and his friend Stephan Rusu, encountered two teenagers armed with knives while they were out for food. The area has gained notoriety, once labeled the most dangerous street in Norfolk by law enforcement officials.

The attack occurred in the early hours of April 6, when Iwo Grudowski, 18, and a 17-year-old, whose identity remains confidential due to legal protections, confronted Buzdugan and Rusu. Both victims sustained life-altering injuries, with Rusu suffering multiple stab wounds to his torso, ultimately leading to a portion of his intestine being surgically removed. Meanwhile, Buzdugan was left with a significant head injury from a knife wound that has resulted in an open wound and ongoing medical treatment.

Grudowski was found not guilty of attempted murder but admitted to causing grievous bodily harm and carrying a knife. He received a sentence of 40 months at a Young Offenders Institution. The 17-year-old, who also confessed to similar charges, was handed a Youth Rehabilitation Order that includes community service and restrictions.

In a poignant statement delivered during the court proceedings at King’s Lynn Crown Court, Buzdugan conveyed the emotional and physical toll the incident has taken on him. Since the attack, he has dealt with excruciating pain and has been unable to work, leading to significant financial strain. Living in Norwich since 2018, he has struggled to maintain a stable life after the traumatic event.

Buzdugan described the persistent pain and challenges of moving his head, with the left side of his skull still exposed. He expressed his fear toward impending surgery, which he has been told may involve a skin graft to repair the damage inflicted by his attacker. Haunted by the memory of the attack, Buzdugan often finds himself replaying the moment he witnessed Rusu being stabbed, stating that the imagery is a constant source of distress.

Det. Con. Adam Ruskin, involved in the case, expressed gratitude to the victims for their cooperation throughout the legal process, acknowledging the shock and fear the incident instilled in both the victims and witnesses present that night. The violent nature of the assault has sparked broader conversations about safety in the community and the need for preventive measures against knife crime.

With the ongoing impact on his physical and mental health, Buzdugan fears for his future. He now relies on the support of friends and family to make ends meet as he navigates the challenges brought on by this senseless act of violence. As the victims seek to rebuild their lives, the community continues to grapple with the implications of such dangerous encounters.
