HUDSON, N.Y. — A Hudson resident has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend. Orlando Williams, 55, was found guilty in April for the March 2024 assault that left the victim severely traumatized.
According to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, the attack unfolded when Williams forcibly silenced the woman, dragged her down a flight of stairs, and took her to a secluded area in the woods. There, he choked her and attempted to stab her with a knife. Law enforcement apprehended Williams the following day in nearby Greene County.
At the time of the incident, the victim held an active order of protection against Williams. A letter presented at the sentencing revealed the lasting impact of the assault; the victim expressed feelings of deep insecurity and fear, noting that the traumatic experience has made her feel unsafe even in her own home.
Williams was convicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder, strangulation, and unlawful imprisonment. The judge ordered that the sentences for these crimes would run concurrently.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court granted the victim a 20-year order of protection, providing her with further security as she continues to recover from the incident. The case underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence and the ongoing efforts required to support victims in such challenging circumstances.
