Violent Attack on Activist Lasha Gabitashvili Linked to Threats from Abu Dhabi: Opposition Leader

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The recent brutal attack on Lasha Gabitashvili is believed to be a direct repercussion of a threat Gabitashvili received while in Abu Dhabi that he would face consequences upon his return to Georgia. Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy of the Builder, highlighted the connection between the threat and the violent attack on Gabitashvili.

Vashadze expressed concerns that the violence and terror directed towards citizens are part of a larger strategy by the government to intimidate and suppress dissent. He condemned the attack by masked individuals as yet another instance of the government resorting to violence against its own people in order to maintain power.

The continuous 76-day protest in Georgia, despite the government’s use of violent tactics, indicates that the regime’s efforts to silence dissent are failing. Vashadze emphasized that such actions only serve to strengthen the resolve of individuals like Gabitashvili and fuel the ongoing protest movement.

Lasha Gabitashvili, who recently faced physical confrontation by Georgian Dream MPs in Abu Dhabi, was reportedly attacked by three masked men on the streets. A video posted on Gabitashvili’s Facebook page showed visible injuries to his face, further raising concerns about the safety and security of individuals expressing dissent in the country.

The incident involving Gabitashvili highlights the volatile political climate in Georgia, where acts of violence and intimidation are being used to suppress voices of opposition. The ongoing protests and the backlash against such violent tactics underscore the deep-rooted issues of governance and human rights in the country.

As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial for authorities to uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of individuals to express dissent peacefully, and hold those responsible for acts of violence and intimidation fully accountable. The international community also plays a pivotal role in monitoring and addressing concerns related to human rights violations and political unrest in Georgia.
