FINNEY COUNTY, KANSAS — Authorities in southwest Kansas are currently investigating an alleged violent attack on a woman that occurred in Garden City.
Early Sunday morning, police responded to reports of a disturbance in the west part of Garden City. Upon arrival, they found a woman with visible injuries who claimed to have been involved in an altercation with 47-year-old Joaquin Enrique Cancio-Morales.
According to the investigation, Cancio-Morales and several others were at a party when an argument broke out between him and the woman. The altercation escalated when they returned to their residence, where Cancio-Morales allegedly slapped the woman and threatened her and a family member with a knife while they were trying to call for help.
Subsequently, Cancio-Morales proceeded to strike the woman multiple times over the head with a glass bottle before fleeing the scene. The victim was then taken to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Law enforcement was able to locate Cancio-Morales and arrested him without any issues. He is currently being held at the Finney County Jail on charges of Aggravated Battery, multiple counts of Aggravated Assault, multiple counts of Criminal Threat, and Domestic Battery.
The incident serves as a reminder of the prevalence of domestic violence and the importance of taking swift action to protect victims. Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.
