Chuadanga, Bangladesh – Two individuals sustained injuries in a violent incident on Friday night, stemming from a disagreement over the sale of a white-fleshed watermelon in the Lohapatti area of Chuadanga. The victims, identified as Rubel Islam, 35, and Amirul Islam, 27, both residents of the upazila, were reportedly attacked by a group of 20 to 30 people believed to be associated with a watermelon vendor, as confirmed by the police.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, Khaledur Rahman, disclosed that the altercation originated when a customer tried to return a white-fleshed watermelon at Boro Bazar earlier in the day. Following a heated exchange, Rubel and Amirul were ambushed and stabbed while riding a motorcycle later in the evening, according to reports.
Their injuries necessitated admission to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at approximately 10:45 p.m., with Amirul subsequently transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for further medical attention due to the severity of his wounds. Prompt police intervention helped quell the situation and efforts are now underway to apprehend the assailants, the OC stated.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack. The community is shocked by the violence that transpired over a seemingly trivial matter, underscoring the need for peaceful conflict resolution in the area.
