Wife doesn’t like Valentine’s Day gift enough so man attacks her with wine bottle then stabs her to death

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN – A Valentine’s Day intended to be filled with gestures of romance ended in tragedy when a 34-year-old Indiana man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in a brutal attack. Authorities say Taylor Meyer is charged with the murder of 36-year-old Deborah Meyer after he purportedly became enraged over his wife’s lackluster response to his Valentine’s efforts.

Law enforcement officers were summoned to the couple’s residence on Westwood Drive late Tuesday night after receiving a distress call from an individual who claimed to have overheard Deborah Meyer pleading for help. According to a probable cause affidavit, the caller, who arrived at the scene, received a harrowing photo showing Deborah’s lifeless body from her own phone.

Forced to breach the door after repeated knocks went unanswered, police encountered Taylor Meyer inside, exhibiting aggression that required officers to use significant restraint techniques to detain him. Inside, they discovered the body of Deborah, along with three young children under the age of five. Deborah’s injuries were extensive, reportedly consisting of approximately 40 stab wounds.

During an interrogation, Taylor Meyer allegedly confessed to the killing, suggesting the strain on their marriage began when he discovered a photo of Deborah with a male colleague. Determined to repair their relationship, Meyer said he orchestrated an elaborate “Bringing Paris to you” theme for Valentine’s Day, only to be met with disappointment by her reaction.

Tensions reportedly escalated after dinner when an argument between the couple ensued. Meyer accused Deborah of stepping out to meet the man he suspected of being her lover after leaving him alone with their children.

He recounted how, in a fit of anger, he wrested Deborah’s mobile phone from her hand during a physical altercation and choked her while accusing her supposed lover of having a hand in the collapse of his marriage.

Meyer detailed how the confrontation grew violent, insisting Deborah struck him first before he retaliated by hitting her with a wine bottle and later proceeding to the kitchen to retrieve a knife. He admitted to stabbing her multiple times, later sending a chilling picture of her body to her alleged lover with a message pronouncing blame.

The Clark County Detention Center is where Meyer remains held without bond. He faces a charge of murder and has pleaded not guilty. The court has scheduled his next appearance for March 18 as the case develops, a date watched closely by those affected by the harrowing events.
