Burlington, Connecticut – Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, a 76-year-old woman who was awaiting sentencing for the death of her husband, was found dead in her home just hours before her scheduled court appearance.
Connecticut State Police discovered Kosuda-Bigazzi’s body at her residence in Burlington on Wednesday morning, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The incident is currently being treated as an “untimely death” by authorities.
In a tragic turn of events, Kosuda-Bigazzi had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and larceny in connection to the death of her husband, Pierluigi Bigazzi, an 84-year-old professor at UConn Health. His body was found wrapped in plastic in the couple’s basement in 2018.
According to investigators, Kosuda-Bigazzi had confessed to killing her husband with a hammer during a confrontation that turned violent. She claimed self-defense in her writings, detailing a struggle that culminated in her husband’s death. Subsequently, she hid the body in the basement while continuing to collect his paychecks.
Prior to her sudden passing, Kosuda-Bigazzi was set to be sentenced to 13 years in prison. Her attorney expressed shock at her death, emphasizing her independence and strong will throughout the legal proceedings.
The case also brought to light the lapse in monitoring by a UConn medical official, who was disciplined for failing to oversee Bigazzi’s work adequately. This development raised questions about accountability and oversight in the tragic events leading to Kosuda-Bigazzi’s unexpected death.
