Eudora, Kansas – A tragic incident unfolded in a home south of Eudora as authorities identified the victim of a fatal shooting as Nicole Eaton, 44. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that the suspected shooter, Ben Eaton Jr., 52, was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the same residence on East 2300 Road.
According to officials, the sequence of events began when emergency responders were called to the scene at 8:52 p.m. on Thursday following a distress call from a woman reporting breathing difficulties. Upon arrival, a Eudora police officer heard a gunshot as he approached the house. Subsequently, contact was established with Ben Eaton Jr., who had barricaded himself inside and demonstrated hostile behavior towards law enforcement.
Law enforcement utilized robots and drones to survey the property and ultimately discovered Nicole Eaton’s lifeless body in the home. The identities of the couple were withheld pending notification of their relatives. Sheriff Jay Armbrister detailed the tragic developments in a press conference on Friday.
