Woman sentenced in horrifying child suitcase murder

LOUISVILLE, KY – A woman from Louisiana has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for her involvement in the murder of a 5-year-old Atlanta boy, whose remains were discovered in a suitcase in southern Indiana in 2024.

The body of the young boy, Cairo Ammar Jordan, was found on April 16, 2024, in Washington County, Indiana, not far from Louisville, Kentucky. The autopsy report indicated that the child succumbed to an electrolyte imbalance, likely caused by gastroenteritis, which led to severe dehydration, according to the Indiana State Police. The investigators believe that the boy had passed away a week before his body was discovered.

The case was complicated by the fact that Cairo was never reported missing, which resulted in him remaining unidentified for several months. After the boy’s identity was confirmed, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation helped Indiana authorities locate Cairo’s father.

The boy’s mother, Dejaune Ludie Anderson, from Atlanta, is currently wanted for murder, with a warrant issued for her arrest. She also faces charges of neglect of a dependent and obstruction of justice.

Another woman, Dawn Elaine Coleman, 41, from Shreveport, Louisiana, has confessed to conspiring to murder Cairo. She has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, with five years being suspended for probation.

The police have stated that Coleman and Anderson knew each other for about a year and had traveled extensively together with Cairo. They were all living together in a house in Louisville. The fingerprints of both Coleman and Anderson were found on the black plastic bags in which Cairo’s body was placed inside the suitcase.

Coleman confessed to finding Anderson on top of Cairo, who was face down on a bed in their shared Louisville home. Anderson asked Coleman to help her put Cairo’s body in a trash bag and then in the suitcase. They disposed of the suitcase containing Cairo’s body in a wooded area in Washington County, near Pekin. The suitcase was discovered by a man who was foraging for mushrooms in April 2024.

Coleman was apprehended in California in October 2024 after the police identified Cairo and linked his death to her. Anderson is still on the run.
