Yonkers Men Sentenced for Violent Attack on Resident in Westchester County

White Plains, N.Y. – Two Yonkers men, Daquann Johnson and Dieandre Phillips, faced sentencing after being convicted in a brutal attack on a local resident. Johnson was handed a 16-year prison term, while Phillips received a 12-year sentence, both with an additional five years of post-release supervision. The sentencing took place before Judge George Fufidio in Westchester County Court following a jury’s verdict on multiple felonies, including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, after a four-week trial ending on March 30.

The charges arose from an incident on January 20, 2023, where Johnson and Phillips engaged in a violent confrontation with a Yonkers resident outside his home, resulting in assault and gunshot wounds to the victim. The assault, captured on surveillance footage, showed the defendants using a firearm to beat and shoot the victim as he tried to escape to safety. Although the victim suffered injuries and required hospitalization, he survived the violent attack.

The pair’s swift apprehension was made possible through the utilization of surveillance video and license plate readers, aiding law enforcement in tracking down Johnson and Phillips shortly after the assault occurred. The successful identification and capture of the assailants underscored the importance of technology in assisting authorities in solving violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.

District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah emphasized the significance of the sentencing in sending a strong message that violent acts will not be tolerated in Westchester County. Rocah commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in swiftly resolving the case and ensuring that Johnson and Phillips were held accountable for their actions. The severity of the sentences imposed reflects the seriousness of the crime committed and serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals face when engaging in violent behavior.

The community’s safety and well-being remain a top priority for officials, who work diligently to address and prevent acts of violence. The successful prosecution of cases like this highlights the commitment of law enforcement and the justice system in protecting residents and upholding the rule of law. The sentencing of Johnson and Phillips marks a significant milestone in seeking justice for the victim and holding those responsible for perpetrating violence accountable for their actions.
