21-year-old Michigan man urinates on funeral program because he wasn’t invited before opening fire at hospital

TROY, MI – A workplace dispute over a funeral invitation escalated into gunfire on Thursday morning, prompting a lockdown at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. Robert Paljusevic, 21, faces several charges, including assault with intent to murder, after allegedly shooting a co-worker in the hospital’s parking garage.

Around 7 a.m., police were alerted to what was initially feared to be an active shooter situation. However, authorities later confirmed the gunfire was an isolated incident involving two hospital employees. The victim, a 25-year-old man, sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and received treatment at the hospital’s emergency department.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a personal fallout between friends. According to detectives, tensions flared when the victim did not extend an invitation to Paljusevic for his father’s intimate, family-only funeral.

Witnesses described the relationship as increasingly strained, with Paljusevic being possessive and quick-tempered.

The situation intensified after Paljusevic made a public scene at a viewing of the victim’s father. According to the victim’s family, Paljusevic approached the casket and expressed anger over not being invited to the funeral. He further aggravated the situation by video calling the victim later to deliver a threatening message while disrespecting the funeral materials.

The confrontation peaked when Paljusevic allegedly fired multiple shots as the victim drove into the hospital’s parking garage, hitting the victim twice. Paljusevic was apprehended at his home in Macomb County approximately two hours after the shooting.

Paljusevic, who has been employed at the hospital for two years, now remains in custody at Oakland County Jail without bail. Officials maintain that the broader public was not threatened during the ordeal, as it was strictly a personal conflict.

The Troy police department’s swift action in responding to the initial reports of an active shooter and subsequent investigation into the personal motives behind the shooting helped clarify the narrative and ensure the safety of the hospital’s patients and staff.
