Alley Self-Defense Shooting Leads to Murder Arrest in Phoenix

Phoenix, Arizona – A fatal shooting incident in a Phoenix alley has left one man dead and another claiming self-defense.

22-year-old Andrew Anthony Ormsby is facing charges in the shooting death of 22-year-old Roy Orozco. The altercation occurred in an alley near 27th Avenue and Campbell on February 22, south of Camelback Road, as documented in court records.

Ormsby alleges that Orozco challenged his toughness and attempted to take his gun, prompting Ormsby to fire in self-defense. Following the shooting, Ormsby fled the scene, and Orozco succumbed to his injuries on-site.

Law enforcement authorities utilized surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences to identify Ormsby’s appearance and attire, aiding in his apprehension. Orozco reportedly requested someone to dispose of his shoes post-shooting, and when denied, discarded them in a dumpster.

Ormsby was eventually located at Glendale’s Bonsall Park, known to be frequented by the homeless population, and arrested in the early evening. Subsequently, he was charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm due to a prior felony conviction in 2021 where his gun rights had not been reinstated.

The case highlights the tragic outcome of a dispute escalating to a lethal encounter in a public setting, underscoring the importance of conflict resolution and responsible gun ownership. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure justice is served for all parties involved.
