Arrest of Suspected Shooter in High-Profile Murder Case Unravels New Leads in Dhaka Investigation

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Authorities have made another arrest in the ongoing investigation into the murder of former Swechhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir. Rahim, a suspected shooter, was taken into custody in Narsingdi, where police also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the assassination.

Shafiqul Islam, the Additional Police Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch, confirmed the arrest on Friday. He noted that the operation that led to the apprehension of Rahim is still active, with additional details to be disclosed at a press conference scheduled for Saturday.

Previously, police had arrested three other individuals—identified as Jinnat, Abdul Qadir, and Md Riaz—during coordinated operations on the night of January 10. These arrests took place across various locations in Manikganj and Gazipur, marking significant progress in the investigation surrounding Musabbir’s death.

Musabbir was fatally shot on January 7 near Bashundhara City in Dhaka. The day following the incident, a case was lodged at Tejgaon Police Station by his wife, Suraiya Akhter. In her complaint, she named four to five unidentified assailants as being involved in the attack.

The investigation has captured public attention due to Musabbir’s political affiliations and the violent circumstances of his death. The police have emphasized their commitment to unraveling the complexities of this case, which has reignited dialogues about safety and political violence in the region.
