Arrest Warrant Issued for Murder Suspect Who Killed Pregnant Woman in Sumter, SC

Sumter, South Carolina – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has issued warrants for the arrest of Troy Corneilus Wells on charges of murder and attempted murder. Wells is accused of shooting and killing 33-year-old Jennifer Cruz, who was pregnant at the time of the incident.

According to authorities, the shooting took place in the 1700 block of North Main Street. Cruz, tragically, died from multiple gunshot wounds, but her unborn child miraculously survived and was delivered. The infant was rushed to a hospital in Columbia and remains in critical condition.

One other victim arrived at Prisma Tuomey Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The individual’s current condition is unknown at this time.

Witnesses reported that Wells, who was acquainted with the victims, was waiting for them at a motel. Upon their arrival, Wells allegedly opened fire on their vehicle, causing harm to both victims.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis stated that the suspect knew Cruz was pregnant, indicating a deliberate and heartless attack. The victim was in her 35th week of pregnancy at the time of the incident.
