Glasgow, Scotland — A man who seriously assaulted his mother, resulting in multiple injuries, has evaded prison time after being sentenced by a local court. David Carrigan, 35, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court today, where details of the brutal attack were revealed.
On May 30, 2025, Carrigan showed up at his mother’s home in Scotstoun while under the influence of alcohol. According to prosecutor Victoria Keel, he forcibly entered his mother’s bedroom, igniting a violent confrontation. Witnesses reported that he grabbed her clothing and dragged her around the room, displaying an alarming level of aggression.
Carrigan then struck his mother, identified as Mrs. Martin, in the abdomen and face, despite her pleas for him to stop. In a twisted escalation, he also used a household spray on her head during the ordeal. Following the attack, law enforcement was called to the scene and found Carrigan lying on the bed while his mother was on the floor, visibly harmed and in distress.
Emergency responders quickly assessed Mrs. Martin’s condition. She was transported to the hospital, where medical personnel discovered she had sustained four fractured ribs along with tissue damage to her face. The brutality of the attack and its impact left her struggling to breathe.
While being taken into custody, Carrigan attempted to assault a police officer, further complicating his situation. He ultimately pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother and admitted to attacking the officer during his arrest.
Sheriff Jonathan Guy presided over the case and handed down a sentence that involved 300 hours of community service. Additionally, Carrigan was ordered to pay £250 in compensation to his mother and will remain under supervision for a year.
