A violent incident in Brooklyn, New York saw a homeless man, who was on parole for a felony assault, arrested for assaulting an elderly woman. The 29-year-old Mouhamed Diallo punched a 72-year-old woman in the head as she was walking in Bay Ridge. The attack took place on Sunday, May 5, at the corner of Fourth Avenue and 96th Street, leaving the victim with bleeding and swelling to her head.
After the assault, Diallo fled the scene, but a surveillance photo of the suspect was released, leading to his arrest at around 6 p.m. on Thursday. He was charged with second-degree assault, a felony. The victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition.
Diallo has a history of arrests, with eight for assault and two for robbery. Five of the assaults occurred in Brooklyn, with three inside a correctional facility in the Bronx. Following a prior felony assault charge, Diallo had been released on parole until November 2028.
The arrest of Diallo coincided with another disturbing incident, where a 64-year-old woman was randomly attacked by a different individual on a Queens street. The cases highlight the ongoing issue of random acts of violence in the city, raising concerns about public safety and the need for increased vigilance.
Law enforcement sources emphasized the importance of addressing the underlying causes of such violent behavior and the significance of community support in preventing future incidents. Diallo’s repeated offenses underscore the challenges in managing individuals with a history of violent behavior, prompting calls for more effective rehabilitation and monitoring programs to ensure public safety.
