Assault investigation underway in Hancock, two hospitalized

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Hancock police department is currently investigating a disturbing case of domestic assault that resulted in two individuals being hospitalized in the early hours of Saturday morning. Chief Tami Sleeman revealed that the authorities were alerted to the incident at 2:40 a.m. by a 911 call reporting the assault in the 300 block of Hancock Street.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the victims and promptly transported them to UP Health System – Portage for medical attention. Sleeman described the incident as a violent domestic assault but did not disclose further details regarding the severity of the injuries or whether any suspects have been apprehended.

A multi-agency response was deployed, with the Hancock Police Department, Houghton Police Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, MTU Public Safety, Mercy EMS, and the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab from Marquette all collaborating on the case. Police tape cordoned off the area outside a former church, now repurposed as apartments, where the assault took place.
