BENGALURU, India — Kannada television actress Kavya Gowda has come forward to share her harrowing account of an alleged violent altercation within her family, detailing claims of physical assault and threats made against her and her husband, Somashekar. This disturbing incident has unfolded amidst a backdrop of familial strife that reportedly led to Somashekar being hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the confrontation.
Gowda, known for her roles in popular television series, has accused her brother-in-law Nandish and his family—specifically, Nandish’s wife Prema, her father Ravi Kumar, and her sister Priya—of launching an attack against her family. The dispute reportedly escalated over accusations against a caregiver hired to look after her daughter, culminating in an incident where Somashekar suffered a stab wound.
After filing a police report regarding the assault, Gowda addressed the media to articulate her perspective on the incidents that led to this severe breakdown of familial relations. “Family arguments are common, but I never intended to go public about our issues. I remained silent until it reached a point where they attempted to harm my daughter,” she revealed.
The conflict began with allegations that the caregiver, Suma, had stolen from the family, accusations that Gowda vehemently denies. “Suma was hired solely for the care of my child. These theft claims are entirely unfounded,” she stated, emphasizing the strict security measures in place, including CCTV cameras, to demonstrate that such an event could not have occurred.
On the day of the violent altercation, Gowda described the moment that triggered her response. After hearing her family members insult Suma again while her daughter was present, she felt compelled to act. “When they threatened my little girl, I knew I had to stand up for her,” she asserted, recounting how family members attacked her with sticks, marking a dramatic escalation in the dispute.
In her statements, Kavya expressed outrage over threats allegedly made by Ravi Kumar, who purportedly threatened to rape and kill her, asserting a position of political influence. Somashekar’s injuries were severe enough to require hospitalization, but thankfully, he was reported to be out of danger. Gowda questioned how someone with children could resort to such violence and make heinous threats against a woman. “This behavior is unacceptable, particularly from someone who should know better,” she said.
Additionally, she urged the public and media not to involve her father-in-law in the ongoing controversy, asserting that he is not linked to the dispute. “He has always treated me well. It’s important that his name is not tarnished in this matter,” she insisted.
