Assault: Kyle Man Sentenced to 65 Years for Brutal Domestic Violence Attack on Girlfriend in Front of Their Children

Kyle, Texas – A man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of assaulting his girlfriend in a violent confrontation witnessed by their children. The case, involving multiple charges related to family violence, was announced by officials from Hays County.

Andy Wayne Carty was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, among other offenses, including continuous family violence and violating a protective order. The jury determined that his actions warranted significant punishment, with five-year sentences on the lesser charges running concurrently with the lengthy prison term for the assault, requiring Carty to serve at least 30 years before he can be considered for parole.

Prosecutors presented evidence of a troubling pattern of escalating violence throughout early 2023. During the trial, it was revealed that one incident began with a heated argument that quickly turned physical. Testimony indicated that Carty assaulted his girlfriend, striking her and forcing her against a wall while their daughters watched in horror. In a moment of bravery, one of the children attempted to call for help, but Carty snatched the phone away before they could reach emergency services. The mother and her children ultimately found refuge in their garage, where they locked themselves in a vehicle to alert authorities.

Carty was initially arrested following that altercation but was released on bond. However, weeks later, he returned home in a more perilous manner, entering through a window while the family slept. Evidence revealed that he had concealed portable devices that could be used to summon help, presenting a grave threat when he confronted the woman in her bedroom.

The assault escalated as the woman struggled to fend off multiple blows, enduring serious injuries while trying to protect her children. The confrontation eventually spilled into the front of the home as her daughters attempted to intervene. In a desperate bid for safety, the children fled to a neighbor’s house, with their mother trailing closely behind after breaking free from Carty.

Responding police and a SWAT team swiftly arrived at the scene. While the woman was taken to receive medical attention, Carty managed to escape but was later arrested after a brief search.

Prosecutor Jon English praised the resilience of the victim and the courage of her children, stating that their actions, combined with the efforts of the Kyle Police Department, played a crucial role in securing justice in this domestic violence case. English emphasized the community’s dedication to combating such violence, recognizing the strength displayed by those involved in the case.

The trial, which lasted two weeks, was under the direction of Judge Joe Pool, offering a stark reminder of the serious repercussions of domestic violence and the judicial system’s commitment to addressing such offenses.
