NEOPIT, Wis. – A local man has been sentenced to three decades in federal prison following a violent assault that left his girlfriend seriously injured. The case has drawn significant attention to issues of domestic violence within the community.
Prosecutors detailed that in September 2024, 32-year-old Nee Gee Cloud forced his way into his girlfriend’s home and launched a brutal attack that lasted nearly 20 minutes. The assault was partly documented by the home’s security system, which ultimately helped notify authorities and led to a swift police response.
Officers from the tribal police force arrived promptly after receiving the alert and apprehended Cloud outside the residence shortly after the assault came to an end. The footage captured on the security camera played a crucial role in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the violent nature of the incident.
During the sentencing hearing on Monday, U.S. District Judge William Griesbach emphasized the gravity of the crime, citing not only the physical damage to the victim but also the psychological toll such violence can impose. In addition to his prison sentence, Cloud was ordered to pay over $2,000 in restitution to the victim to help cover her medical expenses.
The severity of the sentence has been seen as a reflection of both the seriousness of domestic violence and the legal system’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable. Local advocates for domestic violence awareness have expressed their hope that this case serves as a wake-up call to others in the community.
The incident has sparked discussions about the need for greater resources and support systems for victims of domestic violence in the area. Community leaders are collaborating with organizations to raise awareness and provide assistance, aiming to ensure that those affected by similar circumstances are not left to face their struggles alone.
As Cloud begins his extensive prison sentence, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of the violence, and efforts continue to foster a safer environment for all residents.
