Missoula, Montana — A violent incident unfolded on the afternoon of April 24 when a local man reported being assaulted while attempting to defend his campsite. Emergency responders arrived to find the victim, identified as John Doe, exhibiting troubling signs of distress, including facial irritation and visible injuries.
Doe recounted that he confronted an individual who was allegedly attempting to steal from his camp. According to his statement, he was assaulted with a club and pepper-sprayed by the assailant. Visible bruising was noted on Doe’s ribcage, signaling the severity of the encounter. Furthermore, a methamphetamine pipe was reportedly in the suspect’s possession during the altercation.
In addition to the immediate physical injuries, Doe believed that items such as instant coffee and a portable DVD player may have been taken during the incident. He described the weapon used in the attack as a “sawed-off” baseball bat and mentioned that he suspected the attacker was experiencing homelessness.
Shortly after the incident, deputies from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man matching the description of the assailant near mile marker 104. Upon noticing law enforcement, he fled into a nearby neighborhood. The deputies pursued him, urging him to come to a stop. In a brief moment of defiance, the suspect paused to smoke a cigarette before surrendering.
The police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Dave Fisher, who had a history of evading law enforcement. Following his arrest, a search conducted by jail staff uncovered a small bag of methamphetamine hidden in Fisher’s clothing.
Further investigation ensued with a detective obtaining a search warrant for Fisher’s backpack, which yielded documents bearing his name, two instant coffee packages, a broken pipe used for drug consumption, and a considerable quantity of marijuana.
Fisher now faces serious charges, including felony robbery, felony possession of dangerous drugs, and obstructing a peace officer, with bail set at $10,000. His recent legal troubles include previous charges of felony attempted theft and drug-related offenses, suggesting a pattern of criminal behavior that spans multiple investigations.
